IP Monetization
Since our founding in 1988, we’ve helped our clients turn their patents into valuable assets, generating over $1.7 billion through acquisitions, legal settlements, licensing deals, and raising capital. In today’s global economy, our awareness of changing markets, business, and legal issues has become a key part of how we develop patenting strategies for our clients.
There are many ways to monetize your intellectual property. We assist our clients by negotiating and drafting a wide range of business agreements, particularly those related to intellectual property, technology, and data privacy. These agreements can include employment contracts, investment documents, purchase agreements, technology transfers, license agreements, joint development agreements, joint ventures, and marketing or distribution deals, among others.
Our services also include assisting with major business transactions, like raising financing or buying or selling companies or business lines, as well as handling stand-alone commercial agreements. To help your business relationships effectively, we also provide commercial agreement management systems.
We help clients transform their intellectual property into powerful revenue-generating assets.
How can I monetize my patent?
Patents give you the right to prevent others from exploiting your patented invention. The issued patent may be licensed to third parties and you will be paid under the license, you can sell the patent to a company already in the market, or, if a third party is infringing the patent you can pursue patent litigation in federal court to either prevent them from using your invention and/or collect damages from the unauthorized sales.
Does your firm assist with monetizing a patent?
Yes! We assist in evaluating the value of your patent based on market data for similar patents. We also assist in identifying and communicating with potential licensees or infringers and negotiating agreements with these third parties which may entail licensing the patent, acquisition of your patent or your company, or pursuing litigation to enforce your patent.
How do you determine the value of a patent?
Patent valuation entails a complex economic evaluation that considers several factors, including the cost of bringing the patent to market, how much an infringer might pay for the patent, the feasibility and timeline of enforcement, competitive advantage, litigation history, market demand, and more.
